Glasgow is currently bidding against 5 world-wide cities to host the
2018 Youth Olympic Games and has launched a UK-wide marketing campaign
to encourage the British public to back the bid.
The Youth Olympic Games launched in 2010 and is one of the biggest
sporting events in the world exclusively for young athletes who compete
in 28 Olympic sports over 12 days of top-class competition. The Youth
Olympic Games is an amazing platform for young athletes to participate
in a world class event and marks the start of what could be their own
amazing journey within the Olympic movement.
Through its combined sports, culture and education programmes, the
Youth Olympic Games provides opportunities for all young people with an
aim to inspire young people globally to participate in sport and live
by the Olympic Values.
Glasgow 2018 would continue the UK’s Olympic journey of inspiring a
generation and providing young people with the skills and tools they
need to reach their potential and believe they can be champions in their
lives.
The host city for these 2018 Youth Olympic Games will be chosen in July 2013 by members of the International Olympic Committee.
